Brown Paper Floor

I have wanted to pull up the linoleum in our house for a while now but didn't want to spend a fortune on new flooring.  I started looking up cheap floor ideas and that is when I found brown paper flooring.  I found it on the young house love blog. They did this on their sunroom and the pictures looked great.  After convincing my husband that I was not crazy I tried this paper floor thing on the upstairs bathroom.  It is a bathroom no one uses so I figured if it went bad no one would know.  Here are some pictures from the finished project....

I was very pleased with the results so it was time to take on the kitchen and laundry room.  My husband and I decided to do the laundry room first and try it without staining the paper.  We both loved the way it came out, better than upstairs!!  Here are a few pictures from the finished project...

We decided to do the kitchen the same way as the laundry room.  We started last Sunday moving all of the furniture out of the room.  We finished pulling all of the linoleum up today.  Trent (my husband) told me on Wednesday that he does not like this project.  We both have calluses, cuts and sore backs.  After the first day I looked up on google to see if there was an easier way to pull up linoleum.  the only thing I saw was to iron the floor to make it easier.  All that did was ruin our iron.  Basically what we found is if you have linoleum good luck :)  We did by a large floor scrapper, actually we had to buy two, the first one I broke, lol to much time in the gym is what I told Trent!  Here are a few pictures of the before....

Stay tuned for the next step........

  1. Are you putting this over a concrete floor?

    1. No. We put them directly on the sub floor. Everything that I read about concrete discouraged me from trying this in our basement. We are thinking about acid washing the concrete in the basement. Let me know if you try this on concrete.
