Surfer Girl Birthday Party

Throwing my daughters first birthday party was both emotional and exciting.  Emotional because my baby was turning 1 and exciting, well duh I get to throw a party!  At this age as a mom you get to pick the theme, I will probably only get a few more years of that so I took full advantage of this.  In keeping with her room theme and baby shower themes I chose Surfer Girl.  Little did I know how difficult it would be to find surfer girl theme items.  Lets start with the invitations.  I created them on Canva using one of the beachy card themes.  I then printed them on white card stock and backed them with brown card stock, rounded the edges and used a gray and white chevron envelope.
I had a friend of mine make me a keep sake tea towel with the invitation printed on them.  You can visit her Website or Etsy shop if you are interested in one of her cute creations.  She also made the goodie bags.

The menu was BBQ themed with tater tots, PB&J sandwiches, coleslaw, pineapple and cheese casserole and a few dips.  If you are interested in any of the recipes let me know in the comments section and i will send them over to you.

I made a regular cake and a smash cake- word of advice... If you are not a cake decorator spend the extra money to have the regular cake made (this was a big mistake and very time consuming).
The cupcakes were more like a Pinterest FAIL... They were suppose to be teddy grams sunbathing by the ocean, but as my brother said they looked like teddy grams drowning in the ocean, lesson learned, next time hire that part out to someone who knows what they are doing.

The decor was the fun part.  The color scheme was pink and teal all the way down to our party outfits.  The other decorations included... A burlap Happy Birthday Banner, a monthly photo display on the fire place, Flip Flop party wreath and various pictures displayed on the table.  The mason jars were decorated with ribbon and colorful paper straws matching the party colors.

Instead of games I filled up 2 plastic baby pools with sand and added sand toys for the kids to play.  We also had a Bubble and Chalk station.

I wanted to have a keep sake birthday tradition of some sort so i decided each birthday I would find a Dr Seuss book that coordinated with the party theme and have all the guest sign it.  This party I went with One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  I loved reading all the notes the guest wrote and i look forward to when i can give all the books to her... maybe an 18th birthday present?!?!?

At the end of the day we had one tired little ONE year old and TWO proud parents of a beautiful growing baby.

I hope you enjoy this post and can take something away from it for your own Surfer Girl Party!!
