One Year...Five Months...Three Dogs...And One Newborn later and the paper floors are.... Still looking like NEW. This was by far the best project my husband and I have done to date in the house. When we first decided to try this we were a little hesitant about the durability but all of our hesitation was proven incorrect over this past year and a half. The floors not only are a cheap remodel but they are durable to all of our test so far. Here are a few accidents the floors have made it through...
Last summer, only 5 months after the floors were completed, we had a LARGE watermelon explode in the kitchen. First lesson... Don't leave a watermelon out too long without cutting it up. I guess a week is too long!! The "explosion" occurred while we were both at work. We came home to a horrid smell, soaked counter top, soaked cabinets and a huge puddle that was about an inch deep of water. We had to take everything out of the cabinets and put all dishes through the wash. We also had to clean out the cabinets and counter tops and mop up the floor several times. I swear the smell hung around for at least 3 months after the accident. Our biggest surprise was after our new floors soaked in water for who know how long they were still looking just like new.
Another wow moment with the floors was when I "mistakenly" put dish washing soap in the dish washer. I'm not really sure what I was thinking, I blame it on pregnancy brain, but all I remember was my husband walking into the kitchen and screaming my name. Our entire kitchen was at least two to three feet high in bubbles. Needless to say the floors got a good mop job and looked shinier than ever.
We have been so happy with this renovation project and even happier at the money we saved. Sure it took us three weeks of hard work and soar backs from it all but the end result was well worth it. We always get complements from guest that is usually accompanied with a crazy "huh" face when we tell them what it is. As always any questions just ask, I love sharing my creative side, it gives me a break from the insurance sales world I live in during the day.
